How does the Ottoman Empire compare to the Egyptian, Ummayad and Abbasid empires? Compare the millet and devshirme systems to the place of the mawali and dhimmi


The Ottoman empire was notorious for its power and size They forced the language of Persian/Turkish upon the people rather than Greek. Whereas the Ummayad dynasty sought to incorporate the Byzantine adminstration into their culture. However, arabic was the administrative language in the Ummayad dynasty. Occupation and expansion were all obtained via the force of the military in the Ottoman empire. The Mamluks in Egypt, similar to the Ottomans, emphasized their right to rule by virtue of miltary conquest.
