Othello

The handkerchief is a symbol of Othello and Desdemona's love because it is a special one he gave it to her. Iago is able to use this one item to achieve many of his evil plots. This symbol of love ends up ruining numerous lives. First, when Desdemona drops the handkerchief during an argument with Othello, Iago decides to use it in his plot by leaving it where Cassio will find it and use it as his own.
