Oppression of Roma Gypsies

More than one million Roma Gypsies live in the continental United States. Unlike most other minorities, Roma Gypsies choose not make there presence known in order to help in stopping oppression. Gypsy presence can be felt in nearly every American city. Although Hollywood has projected the image of gypsies as colorful dressers, who travel from town to town with disregard for laws, this could not be further from the truth. The media along with the works that are accessable to the public perpetuate this image of the Roma Gypsies.
Due to the fact many Americans have not come into contact with Gypsies, and probably would not know if they did come into contact because actual Roma Gypsies are so far from their Hollywood image, this lack of information about the Roma Gypsies generates a suspicion. This suspicion is all that is needed to found xenophobes idea that outsiders are something to fear, and this fear is the root of all discrimination. Gypsies silently go against these stereot...
