Operating Definition of Organizational Behavior Operating Definition of Organizational Behavior The organizations in which people work affect their thoughts, feelings, and actions in the workplace and away from it. Likewise, people's thoughts, feelings, and actions affect the organizations in which they work. Organizational behavior is a field of study that investigates the impact of individuals, group and structure have on behavior within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge towards improving organization’s effectiveness (Robbins, 2001, p. 09). The field is primarily concerned with the psychological, social, interpersonal, and behavioral dynamics in organizations. However, organizational variables such as the design of work, organizational design and structure, and performance appraisal must also be considered (Nelson & Quick, 2003, p.4).
