One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Throughout time the characteristics of Christ have been portrayed by many people. For instance the Pope portrays Christ by spreading the good news, and caring for others as Christ did. In the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, McMurphy is perceived as a Christ figure. Ken Kesey illustrates this through symbols and images throughout the novel, the fishing trip, and through the actions and feelings of the other characters.
Symbols and images help demonstrate McMurphy as a Christ figure. One image is through the character Ellis who spends the entire novel positioned in a cross position. “Nailed against the wall, arms out.”(pg.20)...
