Of Mice And Men

While John Steinbeck is known for constructing a simple and entertaining
narrative, the allegorical level of morality implied within the text is a major
part of his style. With ‘Of Mice and Men’ Steinbeck portrays the character of
Slim as God and the other ranch hands as his mortal followers.
Consider Slim and his god-like authority over his peers. Slim, the
almighty skinner, is the most respected and admired man on the ranch. His
‘ageless face’, adept physical ability, and profound equanimity give him
somewhat omnipotent traits. His humble, yet insightful advice beckons all to
