Dear George,

I am writing this letter to you to offer praise and commendations for your actions last month. It would have taken a great deal of courage and mental resolve to take Lennie’s life, your friend of so many years. He died at the hands of his hero, his life-companion, and that is something few men would be unhappy about. I understand your feelings about the world, that society seems to be designed to prey on the weak, and that you and Lennie suffered most of all from this sad truth.

I know a bit about the two of you; both growing up in Auburn and you taking Lennie into your care after the passing of his Aunt Clara. The two of you shared the load of being lonely itinerant labourers, and kept your sanity and composure better than many. As you have said before, many men have no one who cares about them, and they become bitter and forlorn, but you and Lennie kept each other going. Go...
