Oedipus the Tyrannos

The Greek word “Tyrannos” would have been a very good title for this play. It represents one of the biggest ironies of the play. There were many different instances of irony throughout the story, but the irony of Oedipus becoming king even though his parents thought he was killed represents the biggest illustration of irony that takes place in the book.
People who become kings become that way by inheriting the throne. A Tyrannos comes to power by seizing the throne from the king. Oedipus becomes King of Thebes because he killed Laius, who was king at the time, and he solved the riddle of the Sphinx. On page ...
