Oedipus Rex - The classic greek tragic hero

Oedipus Rex is a prime example of the classic Greek tragic hero. He exemplifies the characteristics of a tragic hero. According to some a tragic hero is said to be someone who is privileged and exalted and whose high reputation and status have been earned by a heroic exploit, by intelligence, or by inherent nobility. The tragedy resides in a fall from glory that crushes not only the tragic hero, but other related characters as well, sometimes even generations.
A tragic hero is said to be someone who is privileged and exalted and whose high reputation and status are earned by a heroic exploit. Oedipus is a highly exalted king with a renowned reputation and status. Oedipus gained such fame by solving the riddle of the Sphinx and saving the city of Thebes from her plagues.
