A quote from James Marshall, who was the first man to spot gold, in addition he would clearly help change the nation forever.
On January 24, 1848, James Marshall was working for a man named John Sutter, when a shiny piece of metal caught his eye. Both men studied the shiny object and concluded that it was a piece of gold. Marshall and Sutter both were not happy about it. They decided to keep the discovery a secret, knowing that gold-seekers would bring competition. Not long after, the secret was out due to rumors. A man named Sam Brannan decided on his own, to give a helping hand by promoting the rumors. Brannan did so by running through the streets shouting about Marshall’s accidental discovery.
