NURSING

Male nurses are labeled as odd “since real men are not naturally suited to caring activities, those men who wish to nurse must be less masculine” (Cunningham, 1999, p.2). “caring is often a individual expression, not a gender specific one (Evans, 2002, p.7).
Physical touch is crucial to caring. It is a way of communication and care giving. Male nurses fear to the touch the patients As described in an article by Joan Evans (2002), “women patients might be uncomfortable and/or misinterpret their touch-a situation that in turn might lead to accusations of inappropriate behavior or sexual molestation” (p.4).
