Desertification is a process of environmental degradation, whereby due a complex interaction between excessive human activities and natural factors, the once productive land is transformed to exhibit desert-like landscapes. (Waugh). It is a process which is becoming an increasing concern to many regions around the world that have been perceived to be at a great risk from desertification. These regions that have been identified as encompassing a high level of risk of desertification can be seen in the figure below;
