North Carolins

North Carolina, also known as the Tar Heel State was believed to have human settlement back in 8000 BC, but the first recorded discovery was made by a group of explorers led by Giovanni de Verrazano in 1524. Then again in 1526, Lucas Vazquez de Ayllon lead a group of Spanish sailors and founded a temporary colony which was located somewhere near Cape Fear River. Because the French and Spanish never developed a permanent colony, so the territory was left for the Native Americans and English, who eventually established a permanent settlement. Almost 30,000 Native Americans lived in the area when the English arrived. Five of the main tribes were the Hatteras, Chowanocs, Tuscaroras, Catawba, and the Cherokee.
In 1629, Charles l gave Carolina to Sir Robert Heath. He did not do a very good job in establishing settlement. Soon, Virginians started coming to North Carolina in search of fertile land. Somewhere in the late 1650’s or early 1660’s, they founded...
