Stroke is a chronic and disabling disease commonly found among the adult population. Strokes are different from many other disabling conditions. The onset is sudden, leaving the person and the family poorly prepared to deal with an often considerable degree of dysfunction and functional dependence.
One of the consequences of stroke is persistent pain, which often has affects on tasks of daily living. According to Marita Wildar and Gerd Ahlstrom in their article, Disability After a Stroke and the Influence of Long-term Pain on Everyday Life (2002), much research has been done on the consequences of stroke including the individual and the family, but there has been no studies on how pain after a stroke influences everyday life from the patient’s perspective.
