“Homeplace”

The essay starts off with a story about the Millers, a family the writer knew. The Millers have lost there home three times from tornados and yet never leave and always rebuild. The choice that the writer wants us to learn from is, “whether to go, or stay.” The writer makes it clear that he chooses to stay put and in his writing tries to convince us that is the choice we should make as well.
I mostly disagree with the thoughts in the essay. It’s clear that migrating has caused damage such as the dust bowl in the 1930’s, but in the long run it worked out. Scott Russell Sanders argues that if we stay in one place, we get to know it better and the world at the same time would become a better place. Did Mother Teresa stay put? No. She moved on one place to the other and made a difference in the world. If our ancestors never found the courage to leave and find a new life, we wouldn’t be here right now.
