The turntablist dispenses ancient wisdom.

Ad men call it a USP. A Unique Selling Point - something to differentiate your product from the pack. And God knows DJ mixes need one as record shop shelves groan under the weight of computer-mixed compilations of the same "anthems" in a slightly different order, and every two-bit label is releasing anthologies that sound suspiciously like barrels being scraped.

"I'm a hip-hop DJ but I'll play anything that inspires me," says Duncan Beiny. "I listen to a Grooverider mix and it's, like, don't you listen to anything but drum'n'bass? I've got a really short attention span."

As DJ Yoda, Beiny has a USP all of his own - how many North London Jewish scratch DJs who play George Formby can you name? But the DJ mixes he's released on his own Antidote label add his own special ingredient to a tired recipe. "I always keep a sense of humour. It's quite selfish really, because it's purely for my own amusement."

But it's a joke the hip-hop underg...
