Nikki Giovanni

A major outstanding writer poet of The Black Arts Movement period, Nikki Giovanni background mold her thinking ideas and as such reflect certain aspects of the African American experience which ultimately impacted and influenced generations. Nikki Giovanni poetry is her political activism, an activism notable for both the individuality of its premises and the progression of it application. Over the years she has changed from outspoken militancy to a more subdued, though potentially still volatile, rhetoric.
To begin Nikki Giovanni early life was quite interesting yet not very different from many other African American who lived during the same period. Born Yolanda Cornelia “Nikki” Giovanni Jr. in Knoxville, TN on June 7, 1943. However,she was raised in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Cincinnati Ohio.
