Nigerian Culture and Changes

Things Fall Apart deals with the changes in characters lives through new situations around their culture. The changes that occurred are often looked down upon by the Igbo villagers in Nigeria but this type of thing was very common. Okonkwo, the main character, does not get involved in the new political and religious orders because he feels that the ways of his ancestors are much more important than any white mans idea. Okonkwo resists cultural changes also because he wants to keep his titles and stay a man of power. He believes that he is looked at by the way his ancestors were looked at, but as we can see things change and people change. The way of the cultures idea of looking at ones self importance is a serious disadvantage compared to christianity.
