News Media

News media is a very controversial form of free speech. While it is intended to be a fair, unbiased reporting of events, biases often creep into the final product. Biases must constantly be monitored in journalistic writing. They are a challenge to avoid in writing; but when an article or report remains bias free the public gets a clear view of a story. A biased story, however, can taint the public's opinion and hide key facts from the reader.
The New York Times was recently attacked for articles it had printed regarding the turmoil in the Mideast. Because of these articles, many subscribers decided to boycott the newspaper. Boycotters argued, "The Times creates a false equivalence between the sides in the conflict and gives disproportionate attention to Palestinian suffering."
