In 1993 Sylvia Elam had a stroke losing most of her sensation and movements
on her right side of her body. Meaning that her left side of the brain was damaged. Researchers found a way to give patients back some control over their lives by regenerating stem cells. In 1999 Sylvia learned of the research and volunteered for a surgery that could give her back most if not all her sensations and movements.
