Nature

Elizabeth Bishop, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Alden Nowlan
recognizes awareness in nature their respective
narrative poems, "The Fish," "The Panther," and "The
Bull Moose." Their works regard humans’ part in life
and death of nature. In Bishop's poem, the speaker
catches the fish and after examining it, he or she
decides to let the fish go on living. Bishop creates
sympathy for the fish, "Like medals with their ribbons
frayed and wavering, a five-haired beard of wisdom from
