Mystery of Heroism

Dear Diary:
When a person is fighting in a war, he sometimes carries out actions that would otherwise be unthinkable. I witnessed an event such as this when my platoon, the A Company, was in the middle of a battle during the Civil War. A fellow soldier by the name of Fred Collins ran across the battlefield to get some water. Even though the act that Collins performed was stupid, it was also a courageous act of heroism during an intense battle.
Guns were being fired all around me. My eyes were watering from all the smoke of the guns being fired. It was by far the most disastrous Civil War battle yet. Right in front of me, my cousin and fellow soldier, Tom, had just been shot. With all this fighting going on, it was hard to think about anything else. Collins, a man from our troop, decides he is thirsty enough to run across the battlefield to a nearby well.
