Chapter 10 Minorities in the United States: Sameroff

I. Purpose of Chapter:
• To examine how the unique sociocultural context of minorities in this country contributes to their relatively high-risk status and the failure of many systematic interventions at both the population and individual level.

• The social, economic, and cultural of minority children and their children and their families in the United States create special conditions for mental health and developmental psychopathology.

II. Caveats
1. Minorities in this country are comprised of very heterogeneous groups of people from different ethics, racial, and cultural, and migration histories, who have in common a broad and historical based systematic exclusion from resources and power in this country.
