Attempts to quantify intelligence, and more generally human attributes and behavior, have been around for at least a hundred year and have been controversial for just as long. Most recently, IQ resurfaced as ``hot button'' topic in 1994 with the publication of Herrnstein and Murray's The Bell Curve: Intelligence and class structure in American life, though, as we have read, Herrnstein and Murray had been working on these ideas at least since 1971 and their work was preceded by provocative articles by Arthur Jensen in the late 1960's.
