MY LANGUAGE EXPERIENCE



It all started when my father came home, to Romania that is, for the first time since he fled the country, and he said to me “You’re going to America…" I was emotionally aroused on the outside, but inside I was screaming. How will I communicate with others if I don’t speak English. I won’t have any friends, I’ll be lonely. That feeling of emptiness stayed with me ‘til this day
So we finally arrived at JFK Airport scared out of my mind. Getting in the plane it felt like I'm entering a new different world where I was lost and had to find my way back somehow. In my pocket I had a small dictionary that didn't help much. The communication between the flight attendant and myself was more of a sign language then words.
