My Exprience at an Ukranian Orthodox Church

The Orthodox church started in 988 A.D. when Prince Vladimir of Kiev, whom later on became St. Vladimir, embraced Byzantine Orthodoxy and ordered the baptism of his population. By the time the 14th century came around, the metropolitan of Kiev and all of Russia started residing in Moscow. When they started to become dissatisfied western Russian principalities gained temporary separation of the metropolitan. But the authority was later regained under Moscow’s control. Then in the 15th century the church decided to reject the Metropolitan Isidore’s acceptance to unite with the Western church, so they decided to make their own independent metropolitan. After this Moscow thought of it’s self as the third Rome and the last bulwark of true Orthodoxy. Next in 1589 the head of the Russian church gained control of the patriarch, putting him on the same level as the Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem.
