There is a lot of controversy about children with disabilities and their education. Part of the controversy is should students with disabilities be fully included in regular classrooms for the entire school day or should a student’s placement be individually determined using the continuum of placement options.
I feel the student’s placement should be determined by using placement options. Every student with a disability may not be able to manage in a general education class. The advantages of a student with a disability who is included in a general education class may include a different environment for the child, meaning he or she maybe able to inter act with more students of different cultures and origins. This may have a positive effect on their social skills by improving their ability to communicate with students who differ from them.
