My Darling, My Hamburger

In My Darling, My Hamburger by Paul Zindel, the main characters go through problems of the real life. Problems that are not easily solved, problems that people keep from everyone – except, of course, for their best friend. In reality, some of these “best friends” wouldn’t tell anyone about their friend’s problem, considering the fact that the friend with the problem told him or her to keep it a secret between the two. But, what happens when these problems are so severe, so extreme, that this “best friend” tells someone else about the problem? What happens then? Would he or she lose the other person’s friendship… or would the person with the problem understand that his or her best friend was only tryingto help? Perhaps the time when Liz and Maggie, of My Darling, My Hamburger, go through one of these severe problems, may help you understand the consequences of these situations and the value of friendship when it comes to necessity, help and honesty.
