My Brother

Do you remember when you were a kid? Do you remember when you had a role model who you wanted to be just like when you grew up? Do you remember someone who you thought was the greatest person in the world; whether it was a movie star, a famous football player, or a rock star? For as long as I can remember, my brother David has been my role model.
Growing up without my father was one of the most difficult obstacles of my life. I was only four when he died abruptly in an industrial accident and I had trouble understanding that he wasn’t coming back. At the time, my brother, David, was only ten years old and had to take on many new responsibilities. He became the “man of the house” and helped take care of my mom and me. For example, my mom returned to graduate school, so Dave had to keep a close eye on me. He would walk me to the bus stop in the morning, and be there to meet me again in the afternoon.
