On September 9, 2003, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced to two hundred and sixty one people that they were going to be sued for illegally sharing music files over the Internet (Levy 1). The RIAA was going to show the world that they meant business when it came to illegally sharing music over the Internet, and they did just that. Almost over night, the RIAA sent a tidal wave through the music industry that caused heated debates on both sides from fans and artists alike. Some artists were against the actions of the RIAA; some applaud it, while just about every other music downloading American hated it. The lawsuits destroyed some homes because everyday middle class people had to pay hundred dollar an hour lawyers to represent them so that they would not be fined for up to $150,000 per song (Lambert 1).
