Everyone was placed on earth as equals, meaning the stronger do not have precedence over the weaker. The use of animals for human consumption, experimentation and entertainment clearly violates their rights and freedoms. Animals, like humans are born with an equal claim on life, and should be treated with dignity and respect.
Human consumption of animals is immoral and unhealthy. Animals raised for food are subject to barbaric treatment. “Ninety-five percent of the animals we eat are bred for slaughter in cramped, unnatural, and unhealthy conditions (Fraser, 1990: 32). People don’t stop to realize that the packaged meat they are buying was once an innocent animal facing excruciating pain from an inhumane act. Studies of vegetarians show that they’re a lot healthier than meat-eaters.
