Multi-Color Corporation, one of the largest manufacturers of consumer product labels, was originally founded in 1916 as the Printing Machinery Company(Mulch, 1999). At that time, the latest in print technology was the sheet-fed three-color press. Franklin Development Company, “a group with the foresight to invest in the day’s latest technology,” hired Printing Machinery Company to manufacture and sell the new presses(Mulch, 1999, pp 3). Printing Machinery Company later changed its name to MulticolorType and centered its business on printing product labels rather than press manufacturing (Mulch, 1999).
