much ado about nothing essay

In a play the opening scene can introduce the audience to the main characters, the background and also gives clues to what is going to happen in the rest of the play. It introduces the themes and concerns and gives the context of the play or book. The main characters are introduced in it, and we learn of their role and possibly the relationships between characters.

In ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ we learn that Don Pedro, the prince and a highly important person who has overall authority in Messina, is returning in triumph from a war with his brother, Don John. Beatrice and Benedick are bickering over insignificant things and Beatrice comments on the fact that she knows him from before and that she knew that he would have the last word. Claudio confides in Benedick that he loves Hero and Don Pedro agrees to talk to her on Claudio’s behalf.
