There are many movies that are made to teach lessons about health related issues. These movies provide insight and information on how to act in society acceptable ways. They teach kids about major health concerns that many parents don’t talk about in the home. The movie “Kids” by Harmony Korine, shows many examples of health concerns that plague our teenagers today. These issues are sex, teenage alcoholism, drugs, and STD’s like HIV/AIDS.
One health issue that is shown in the movie “Kids” is the concern about HIV/AIDS. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome: Acquired means you can get infected with it, Immune Deficiency means a weakness in the body's system that fights diseases and Syndrome means a group of health problems that make up a disease. AIDS is caused by a virus called HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. If you get infected with HIV, your body will try to fight the infection.
