Motivating Employees and Maintaining Morale

Motivating employees by building and maintaining morale is critical to a productive workforce. Effective managers have and use the skills necessary to teach and encourage motivation by becoming the example, recognizing achievers, and communicating effectively (Weiss 1). Though many factors contribute to the building of morale, involvement and empowerment are key, and complimentary to each other. While I have not yet had the opportunity to test my own ability at these skills, I have had the occasion to experience varying levels of these skills from the inside looking out as well as the outside looking in.
