The cultural context of this era was one of unrest. Nigeria having just obtained its independence in 1960 was a country totally reorganized by the colonization that had taken place. .Things Fall Apart was written two years before the independence took place. This book was a call to social conscientiousness. Achebe felt that all of his country men should revisit with their past and learn their history.
