Moby's Style

Call me Ishmael. This is the first line from the famous novel Moby Dick, which was written by Herman Melville. How much do you actually know about the story though? Or how much do you know about the true meaning of the story and the style in which it was written? The style of Melville will be investigated in this essay.
The story can be interpreted in many ways. The most common way is by its religious undertones set throughout the story. Ishmael is a religious name and can influence the way you view the story. For instance, in the beginning as he is searching for a place to stay, its as if Mary and Joseph are traveling from inn to inn to find a place to sleep for the night. Ishmael goes to as chapel before his voyage and listens to Father Mappel preach about a ship out on the sea. His sermon continues to relate to Jonah and the whale, which is an obvious sign that a whale will cause a problem later on.
