Mobility of people

What is migration?
Migration means the movement of people from one place to another. There are two main types: international, and internal.

What are push / pull factors?
Push / pull factors are a way of explaining reasons for 'rural to urban' (also called 'urbanisation' and 'rural depopulation'.)

Push factors are events or features of the place in which people live that are pushing them AWAY from that area (and so are perceived as bad). Pull factors are events or features that pull people TOWARDS another area (and so are perceived as good). This page does not list all push / pull factors, but illustrates some possibilities. The principle idea of migrating from one area to another in this situation is to improve quality of life.
