mitosis

Biology- Assessment task 3
Mitosis- the duplication of chromosomal DNA followed by a cell division that results in to smaller daughter cells.
Chromosomes contain genes, which consist of DNA. When a cell under goes division, it divides into two smaller cells, identical to each other and the parent cell. They contain the same complete chemical code within their chromosomes as does the parent cell, and a more or less equal number of cell organelles for each daughter cell to have a complete DNA code, DNA replication has to occur in the parent cell. Information is transferred as DNA or chromosomes when cells reproduce. Therefore, in DNA replication followed by division all the genes in the parent cell are transferred to daughter cells.
Once the mitotic process begins, it continues until two new cells are produced, but for convenience we can divide the sequence of happenings into different stages or phases.

The role of cell division in growth, repair and reproduction.
