Minnesota

Minnesota is the state known for its numerous lakes. Minnesota has one of the greatest water areas of any state. They have estimated as high as 22,000 lakes.
The state capital of Minnesota is St. Paul. St. Paul's twin city is Minneapolis, the largest city in Minnesota. The people of Minnesota are called Minnesotans.
The state has a few different nicknames. They are: North Star State, Gopher State, Land of 10,000 Lakes and the Bread and Butter State. Minnesota got its name from two Sioux Indian words meaning sky-tinted water or cloudy water.
Minnesota's state flag bears a version of the state seal. The state seal was adopted in 1861. On the seal a man plowing symbolizes agriculture and a tree stump stands for the lumber industry, both are important parts of the state's history. The seal also shows a Native American on horseback, representing the first people in Minnesota. The state motto is L'Etoile du Nord meaning The Star of the North, and its statehood was May 11,...
