Mill Girls

I think becoming a “mill girl” in the 1800’s would have been a terrible thing to do. Mill girls worked very hard for very little pay and no benefits. Each girl worked about 13 hour days and live in four units of 20-40 girls in each unit. This caused all the girls to get sick and disease easily especially when one girl was sick. I would get sick a lot with many types of illnesses. The houses we lived in were very small and not built strong. This made problems worse because in the winters the temperature would be the same inside as outside and many rodents would come in. So I hated the living conditions. The food they gave us was terrible and hard to eat after a while and me some people food poisoning.
