Mick Harte Was Here, by Barbara Park, tells a chilling story of a young boy’s death and how his family, especially his sister, deals with it. The story is told by Mick’s sister, Phoebe, who right off the bat tells everyone of Mick’s death, "I don't want to make you cry. I just want to tell you about Mick. But I thought you should know right up front that he's not here anymore. I just thought that would be fair." (Park, pg1) The reader wants to hope that Phoebe doesn’t mean that he’s dead, simply that he has gone away, but later on in the story they find out differently.
