Mice and men

What have I learned about another culture from my reading of ‘0f Mice and Men’

In this essay I will look at the culture of ranch life in a 1930s America, in the height of the depression. .

In the novel, Of Mice and Men, many universal themes in life and society are expressed. Almost as if the ranch is a metaphor for our world. One aspect of life which is seen throughout the book is loneliness.

Loneliness ,at this time, and even now, would seem an inevitable fact of life that not even the strongest could or can avoid. All the characters are extremely lonely and unhappy with their lives (except Slim, who is the only other character apart from George and Lennie, that seems to be confident and happy with his life), and none of them can escape this unhappiness. I feel this because economic and social forces control them, and free will seems far away because of this.
