Medical Surgical Patients A Unique Breed

Of all the people admitted to a hospital on a daily basis, the ones admitted to a Medical/Surgical floor have to be the most unique. As Nurses, we often refer to these people as our patients, but did you know that there are three distinctive types of patients. To better understand you must first get to know who these three types of patients are, and how to identify each one separately.
The first patient I will introduce you to, is dear sweet Mr. Monty Model, we refer to Monty as a model patient, in some ways you may recognize Mr. Model is by his repetitious replies to your questions, when asked, may I get you something ? Are you doing ok? Is there anything at all you need? He will promptly reply with, “no, I think I’m fine or I really don’t want to be a bother.” He will always do the things required of him in order to gain your favor such as; when informed that he must walk in the hall at least twice on your shift he will walk three times.
