You’ve just finished putting the last touches on your final term paper for English. Delighted at the completion, you lean back in your chair and sigh a deep breath of relief. That’s when the trouble sets in. Your usually reliable computer untimely decides to lock up, causing you to lose your treasured term paper. In an act of rage you begin yelling obscene comments at your computer and even start physically abusing the helpless machine. “You stupid piece of” . . . well, I’ll let you fill in the blank. If any of this sounds remotely familiar, you have thrust yourself into the media equation.
The media equation can be summarized in one simple problem that states Media = Real Life (Griffin 403).
