Is it good to deny yourself luxury and convenience, or do a difficult thing just for the mere fact that it is difficult? Many people including myself and Maximus Confessor think yes. To deny yourself luxury and convenience is to give yourself to god and sacrifice for god. It is something that is very hard to do and to withstand something like giving up all material possessions takes a lot of strength and heart to accomplish.
