Matthew 13:3-9, 18-23

As Jesus introduces the parable in Matthew 13:3, He says, "A farmer went out to sow a seed." Jesus does not say anything about the sower, but later (Matthew 13:37) he refers to the sower as the son of Man. "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man." In this the Son of Man is the sower. Sowing the seed must begin with Jesus. Christ calls the seed “the word of
the kingdom.
In verse 4, he says that “ Some seed fell on the path.” Then he goes into verse 19 and explains himself. He says, “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed down along the path.“ That soil is nothing more than soil that is untilled. The people who are represented by untilled soil are the people who are deaf to the message of Messiah.
