Mathematics Specification A Coursework Tasks – Statistics 1- S1 Task D: Authorship

I have chosen to do S1 Task D: Authorship. For this I have to collect data from a population with the view to estimating population parameters using estimation techniques. This includes random sampling and the calculation and comparison of confidence intervals.
I am going to compare an adult text to a child’s text. By adult I mean a text that is aimed at anyone over approximately 16 and for my child’s text, I will choose one aimed at children up to and including 8 years of age.
I aim to see if it is possible to gain information about the authorship of a text through statistical measures. By this I mean that I will investigate whether using statistical measure such as calculating the mean and confidence intervals to investigate a variable, such as the number of words in a sentence, allows you to find a difference between the different types of text, adult and child.
