MASS MEDIA OVERVIEW AND INTRODUCTION

This course study has provided me with valuable information that I can actually use in the journalism field. The text which is aptly named, “Making Sense of Media, helps to do just that, make sense of the media. I have never really liked history but in this case it really allowed for a formation of a foundation of each medium. The text is extremely comprehensive and detailed and I am proud that I can inform others about not just the television ratings but also about Neilsen who is responsible for monitoring the reports.

This course has increased my awareness of the media around me and the impact and meaning that it has on everything. It’s also easier to see the way in which each aspect of the media relates with another and how they work together. When I purchase CDs I consciously think about Soundscan and when the television is off I set the channel to the station that I would like to get the ratings. After reading the ch...
