• First women to be positively identified as the ‘ripper’s first victim although many historians believe that Emma Smith and Frances Coles, (two women murdered in Whitechapel at the time) are also the work of jack the ripper.
• Well kwon alcoholic
• Married at nineteen to William Nicholls, and around 1877 he ran off with another woman. Divorced in 1880 and was left to make her living as a prostitute, and by 1888 she become a mother to five children.
